Trigger warning: Discussion of sexual abuse against people with disabilities
I saw a news report that said that a staff member at a rehabilitation centre for people with disabilities has been arrested for sexually abusing the people he was assigned to help. It also said that there is a possibility that the abuse has been going on since 1985.
Am I surprised? No.
Am I angry? Yes.
It’s frustrating to think that it took this long for the people who were abused to have their testimony taken seriously by police and other staff members. It frustrates me that people get lesser sentences for abusing people with disabilities.
Also the staff member who was arrested disgusts me.
